General Availability (GA) - Product custom attribute localization

Moderate Upgrade

The Product Custom Attribute Localization update previously announced in Release 728, is now Generally Available (GA).

The GA version has the following changes:

The primary change in this release is the automatic migration of all existing non-localized Text and Text Area attributes to their localized counterparts.

Key highlights

  • Automatic migration — All existing non-localized Text and Text Area attributes will be migrated automatically. No manual action is required.
  • Content preserved — Existing content is retained exactly as-is and stored as the default locale value. No translations are added or removed during migration.
  • Legacy input types removed — The non-localized "Text" and "Text Area" options will no longer be available in the attribute creation screen. Only the Text with Localization and TextArea with Localization options will be visible for Product custom attributes. All new text-based attributes are localized by default going forward.

What changed since EA

During EA, existing Text and Text Area attributes could not be retroactively localized. Creating localized attributes required using the new input types, and migrating legacy attributes required manual assistance from an Account Manager or Technical Consultant. This limitation is now fully resolved with the automatic migration described above.

What stays the same

  • All marketplace surfaces (storefronts, product pages, search results) continue to render custom attribute content as before.
  • The localization workflow introduced in EA remains unchanged — you can add translations to any text-based attribute using the standard platform translation process.
  • Localization remains limited to product custom attributes. Other custom attribute types are not yet translatable.
